The Sewee Longleaf Conservation Cooperative formed in 2012 to promote the pine in the Lowcountry region around the Francis Marion National Forest, after the forest and nearby environs were named one of 16 of the last remaining significant landscapes of the pine.

A broad group of federal and state forestry and wildlife agencies, conservation nonprofits and private landowners contributes to the cooperative.

Among them are the Nature Conservancy, U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service, S.C. Department of Natural Resources, Clemson Extension Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Wild Turkey Federation, White Oak Forestry (White Oak Forestry is owned by Evening Post Publishing Co. The Post and Courier LLC is a subsidiary of Evening Post Publishing Co.), Sabine and Waters Environmental Land Management Consultants, Doe Hall Creek Timber Co., Joseph W. Jones Ecological Research Center, Natural Resource Conservation Services and the S.C. Forestry Commission.
