Three Charleston pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout and Jake Cave drove in two runs as the RiverDogs beat the Augusta GreenJackets, 3-0, Saturday night in South Atlantic League baseball at Riley Park in front of 5,057 fans.

Luis Niebla (3-3) went five innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six, followed by Daniel Camarena, who went three innings, and Alex Smith, who earned his fourth save of the season for the RiverDogs (39-28).

Charleston scored in the third inning as Jake Cave doubled and scored on Greg Bird’s double to right field.

Cave doubled and scored again in the fifth on Bird’s RBI single to right, making it 2-0.

The RiverDogs scored their final run against Augusta (37-31) in the eighth as Cito Culver walked, moved to third on a double by Bird and scored on a wild pitch.

Justin Schumer (2-6) was tagged with the loss for Augusta. He pitched seven innings, allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out five batters.

The final game of the first half is at 5:05 p.m. Sunday against Augusta. Right-hander Cesar Vargas (2-3, 3.61 ERA) will be on the mound for Charleston, while the GreenJackets will counter with pitchers from their bullpen. It will be Kids Club Sunday. There will be free parking, members of Charlie’s Kids Club will get in for free, and kids 12 and under will receive a coupon for a hot dog, Pepsi and a bag of chips. It’s also Prostate Cancer Awareness Day.
