Home sales in the Charleston region have been stronger than most comparable regions in South Carolina, according to a statewide report released today.
South Carolina Realtors, a statewide trade group, reported that the Charleston tri-county region tallied higher sales and median price of homes compared to metro areas such as Columbia and Greenville.
Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties tallied 4,739 home and condo sales through the first five months of the year. That’s higher than the 3,570 sales for Columbia and 3,581 for Greenville, the group reported.
The Charleston region has also been outpacing the state median price and number of days before a home is sold. The median price of homes in The Palmetto State was $160,000 in May, $52,000 less than the Charleston region’s median price.
The state average for days a home sits on the market before sold was 120 in May, 42 more days than the Charleston region’s average for the month, according to the state data.
Charleston real estate officials have said the region’s robust housing market is aided by low mortgage rates and lower home prices compared with past years, though both are edging higher.
