North Charleston City Council on Thursday approved a budget for the year beginning July 1, by a vote of 8-2.
The $99.9 million budget for the next 12 months includes a 5.2 increase in spending and a small property tax increase.
Council members Bobby Jameson and Dwight Stigler voted against the plan, and Council member Dot Williams was absent.
The spending will pay for more firefighters, raises for city works, and new equipment.
An owner-occupied home worth $150,000 would be taxed an additional $6 a year.
