Former College of Charleston left-handed pitcher Jake Zokan has signed a professional contract to play with the Pulaski Mariners of the Rookie Appalachian League.
Zokan, who played at Spring Valley High School, was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the ninth round of last weekend’s Major League entry draft. Zokan becomes the 19th player under Cougars head coach Monte Lee to sign a professional contract at the end of their collegiate career.
Zokan led the Cougars pitching staff in 2013 with a 2.85 ERA and a 4-3 record. He recorded a team-high 80 strikeouts in 79 innings pitched and allowed just 15 walks. His strikeout-to-walk ratio of 5.33 ranked 32nd in the nation and second in the Southern Conference behind teammate Matt Pegler.
Zokan finished his career with an ERA of 3.95 and an 11-6 record.
