ST. GEORGE — A 28-year-old man has been accused of shooting a man to death during a fight at a gas station.
Brandon Davis is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Davis remains locked up in the Dorchester County jail after a bond hearing Monday.
Dorchester County detention officers refused to release arrest affidavits after the bail hearing, though the documents are public records.
The fatal shooting happened early Sunday morning, Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet said.
A group of people stopped at Easy Shop gas station about 2:30 a.m. after leaving a club in the Hudson Town community, Nisbet said. The store is on Jim Bilton Boulevard near I-95. A fight broke out and someone pulled a gun and fired about seven shots, hitting one man, Nisbet said.
Friends rushed the wounded man to Colleton Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Nisbet said.
Nisbet identified the slain man as Edward Raymone Clayton Holmes, 27, of Acebasin Parkway in Jacksonboro. Holmes died from an apparent gunshot wound to the head, he said.
An autopsy was performed and more details on the death will soon be released, Nisbet said.
St. George police released no details about the case Monday. An officer at the station said no one was available to answer questions and a report from the incident had not been completed.
State Law Enforcement Division spokeswoman Kathryn Richardson confirmed that agents are assisting St. George police in the investigation but had no other details to provide.
