AUGUSTA — Charleston catcher Wes Wilson had three hits and three RBIs to lead the RiverDogs to an 8-2 victory over the Augusta GreenJackets on Sunday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium in South Atlantic League baseball.
Wilson went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles as the RiverDogs (33-21) won the series, 3-1, and remained in first place in the Southern Division standings.
Charleston had 14 hits against Augusta (30-26) after totaling eight the past two games. Shortstop Claudio Custodio was 3 for 4 with an RBI triple and increased his team lead in stolen bases to 18 with two. Reymond Nunez and Jose Rosario each had two hits and an RBI.
Charleston starter Vicente Campos pitched well in four innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits and struck out two. Brett Gerritse (5-3) tossed three perfect innings and struck out three in relief. Alex Smith pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game.
Charleston led 3-2 before breaking the game open with three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
The RiverDogs open up a six-game homestand with Greenville and Asheville. Following an off day today, the RiverDogs face Greenville at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday with right-hander Luis Niebla (2-1, 6.62 ERA) starting against Drive righty Justin Haley (2-6, 4.64).
