Comcast cable service, which was out across the Lowcountry for most of the afternoon and evening, starting returning about 9:15 p.m.
Residents from Charleston to Mount Pleasant to Goose Creek to Walterboro reported issues with their service via social media starting at about 1 p.m.
“Due to a fiber cable cut at the facilities of one of Comcast’s service providers outside Charleston, customers are currently experiencing an outage,” Shannon Dulin, a company spokeswoman, said in a statement Wednesday afternoon. “We are actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and hope to have service restored sometime later this evening.”
Dulin didn’t know how the cut happened, who or where exactly in the region the service provider is, or any more details about the extent of the outage.
“What I’ve provided in the statement is all I know,” she said.
Comcast also acknowledged the issue in a note to customers on its website.
“We expect this to be resolved by 10 p.m. today,” the note said.
