Goose Creek man hits two officers, two cars before he’s arrested

A Goose Creek man struck a law enforcement officer and two cars before running off the road Friday night. No one was seriously injured during the incidents, which occurred in a span of about five minutes.

Elizah Robertson, 26, of Goose Creek was driving a Pontiac Grand Am near Myers Road in Goose Creek around 10:45 p.m. when he approached a traffic checkpoint, said Mayor James Brady with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

Robertson hit S.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Bridgett Wyant, who was working the checkpoint, Brady said.

Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Cook also was working the check point but was not struck, Berkeley Sheriff’s spokesman Dan Moon said.

Robertson fled toward U.S. Highway 176, then turned back around and struck a white Cadillac stopped at the checkpoint.

He continued to flee on U.S. Highway 17A, turned on Highway 176 and hit a white pickup truck turning near Branchwood Drive. That collision forced Robertson’s car off the road into the woods, where deputies arrested him, Brady said.

The Highway Patrol and Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office are handling charges against Robertson, while Charleston County investigated it because it involved the other law enforcement agencies.
