Daniel Island’s Shelby Rogers defeated top-seeded and 96th-ranked Vesna Dolonc of Serbia, 6-4, 6-2, Monday in the qualifying final round for the $235,000 Strasbourg International tennis tournament in Strasbourg, France, to earn a spot in the red-clay tournament’s main draw.
Rogers, who is in France to participate in next week’s French Open with the wild card she earned in a series of USTA Pro Circuit events, was the qualifying tournament’s fifth seed. She will take on fellow qualifier Marta Domachowska of Poland in the main draw today.
The 20-year-old Rogers currently is ranked a career-best 188th in the world in singles and No. 189 in doubles.
Marion Bartoli is the Strasbourg top seed.
