GREENVILLE — Claudio Custodio homered in the eighth and ninth innings to propel the RiverDogs to a 9-7 victory Sunday afternoon over the Greenville Drive.

With the win, the RiverDogs (24-16) took sole possession of first place in the Southern Division standings.

Charleston’s offense was able to strike for an early first inning run thanks to an RBI double by Peter O’Brien. With the double by O’Brien, he extended his team-best hitting streak to nine games. Scoring the run was leadoff man Jake Cave, who finished 4 for 6 with three doubles, a triple, two RBIs and a run scored.

Custodio finished his day 2 for 4 with two homers, a walk, three RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base. First basemen Greg Bird also chipped in with a 2-for-4 game with a solo homer, double, walk and two runs scored.

RiverDogs starter Daniel Camarena struggled as he lasted 41/3 innings and gave up seven runs on eight hits and walked four. Camarena was relieved by Dietrich Enns, who tossed a scoreless 12/3 innings and allowed just two hits and struck out three.

Picking up the win was Phil Wetherell (1-0), who pitched three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.

Greenville second baseman Mookie Betts extended his hitting streak with a single in the fourth inning to a season-best 14 games. He finished 2 for 4 for the Drive (13-30).
