A traffic stop near Folly and Camp roads at about 1 a.m. Friday led to the arrest of two suspects in an armed robbery 30 minutes earlier near Vanderhorst and Thomas streets downtown.
Eric Wigfall, 23, of Samuel Road, is charged with armed robbery, two counts of attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, Charleston Police said.
Brittany Robinson, 22, of West Oak Forest Drive, is charged with armed robbery and two counts of attempted armed robbery, police said.
Wigfall and Robinson were being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.
The incident began when three women were walking on Vanderhorst Street. One of them felt a tug on her purse, which she was carrying on her right shoulder. She turned around and saw a man pointing a handgun at her.
The man demanded their handbags. Two of the women ran away and the third had her purse taken. The man then fled the scene on foot.
