RiverDogs 6, Sand Gnats 3
Peter O’Brien and Jake Cave led the Charleston RiverDogs offense in a 6-3 win over the Savannah Sand Gnats in South Atlantic League action Wednesday night at Riley Park in front of 3,233 fans.
The RiverDogs (21-15) swept the series and moved into sole possession of second place in the Southern Division. The loss drops the Sand Gnats (21-16) to fourth place in the Southern Division. Charleston is now just one game behind the first-place Augusta GreenJackets.
The RiverDogs, who have won six straight, were able to get on the board early. Cave led off the bottom of the first inning with a single to left field and Cito Culver reached base on a throwing error before O’Brien hit his fifth homer of the season and made the score 3-0. The RiverDogs added runs in the third, fifth and eighth innings.
Charleston travels to Greenville today to take on the Drive for the first game of a four-game series at 7:05 p.m. RHP Rafael De Paula (3-2, 2.70 ERA) will be on the mound for Charleston and will face off against RHP Frank Montas (1-4, 5.90 ERA) for the Drive.
The RiverDogs return to Riley Park on May 23 for a four-game series against Greenville.
