Charleston County Aviation Authority wants to add five new employees, offer 3 percent merit-based raises and boost life insurance benefits to $50,000 from $10,000.
Those are all parts of the proposed $30.5 million spending plan for next year to be presented at 2 p.m. today to the authority’s Finance Committee. The airport’s budget year starts in July.
The budget is about $500,000 more than last year and is based on passenger growth. It does not include federal grants, interests and funds collected from the airport’s $4.50 fee levied on each passenger who flies out of Charleston International Airport.
The five new employees include two administrative assistants, a support technician for information technology and two airport security specialists. Three pay upgrades for assistant manager of ground transportation, network administrator and airport security manager are also proposed.
The new positions would cost about $198,000 while the upgrades would total about $44,000, according to Bill New, deputy airports director.
The airport’s full-time employee count would rise to 154 if the airport board OKs the recommendations made Tuesday by the authority’s Human Resources Committee. The airport has six part-time workers.
The full Aviation Authority will take up the proposed budget at 10 a.m. Thursday.
