LEXINGTON — Lexington’s improbable run through the Class AAAA girls soccer playoffs ended Monday night at home as the Wildcats fell, 2-0, to Wando in the Lower State final.
“They were just better than us,” Lexington coach Chris Fryland said.
“Don’t get me wrong. We battled for 80 minutes. But we started the season having graduated 11 — seven starters. So for this team to win the region and get all the way to Lower State championships was amazing.”
Wando took the lead after 28 minutes of play on a penalty kick and sealed the win with a put-back shot from Rachel Torlay with 12 minutes left.
“When it was 1-0, I felt like we still had a chance, but once they got that second one, it was difficult,” Fryland said.
