Three RiverDogs pitchers combined to toss the third shutout of the year for Charleston en route to an 8-0 win over the Hickory Crawdads in South Atlantic League action at Riley Park in front of 4,772 fans on Saturday night.

The RiverDogs (17-15) remain in fifth place in the Southern Division.

The RiverDogs jumped on Hickory starting pitcher Sam Stafford (0-3) in the bottom of the third inning. Charleston sent 10 men to the plate, scored five runs on four hits and three walks, and never looked back.

A three-run homer by Reymond Nunez in the bottom of the eighth provided insurance runs late for the Dogs.

Charleston starting pitcher Gabe Encinas kept the game scoreless before leaving with an injury with two outs in the third.

Brett Gerritse (3-2) came in and earned the win, going 41/3 innings with no runs, two hits and seven strikeouts. Alex Smith closed the door on Hickory with four strikeouts in two scoreless innings.

Hickory (19-15) starter Stafford took the loss, giving up five runs in 21/3 innings.

Kelvin DeLeon had his second consecutive multi-hit game for Charleston with a 2-for-4, one RBI performance at the plate.

Each of the eight runs for the RiverDogs was scored by a different player.

The first 1,000 fans through the gates received a replica RiverDogs jersey.

The final game of the series is today at 5:05 p.m. RHP Vincent Campos (0-1, 4.82 ERA) will be on the mound for Charleston, and RHP Tyler Smith (4-0, 3.07 ERA) will start for Hickory.

It’s Mother’s Day at The Joe, and all moms who wear pink to the game will get in free. It’s also Kids Club Sunday, with free parking, free entry for members of Charlie’s Kids Club and all kids 12-under eat for free. There will be postgame autographs with the entire team.
