AIKEN — A father and daughter have died in a house fire outside Aiken that authorities are calling suspicious.
Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said 28-year-old Dunkan Baker and his 2-year-old daughter died in the fire Saturday morning. He says both died of thermal injuries and smoke inhalation.
Carlton said the girl was pronounced dead at the scene while Baker was pronounced Saturday afternoon at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga. Autopsies are scheduled for today in Newberry.
Capt. Eric Abdullah of the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office told the Aiken Standard that dispatchers received an emergency call from a passing motorist on Saturday morning about the house fire.
