Campbell 6, Coll. of Charleston 2
MOUNT PLEASANT — Campbell used a four-run fourth inning to down College of Charleston, 6-2, in non-conference baseball Tuesday at Patriots Point.
The Cougars (26-21), who next host Georgia at 6 p.m. today, held a 1-0 lead until the fourth. The Camels (40-9) scored on a wild pitch, a passed ball and four straight singles to take a 4-1 lead.
Drew Freie (4-5) went 32/3 innings in his second career start, allowing three runs on three hits with two strikeouts for the Cougars.
Campbell’s Logan Self (2-0) pitched two shutout innings in relief to earn the win.
Bradley Goodson hit his first home run of the season for the Cougars, a solo shot in the sixth inning. Gunnar Heidt went 2 for 3 with a walk.
Michael Felton notched two of Campbell’s 13 hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Will Albertson also scored twice and had two hits with an RBI.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Cody Martin.
After taking a 4-1 lead, Campbell loaded the bases in the fifth when three straight batters were hit by a pitch, and Michael DeLucia hit a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 5-1.
Goodson’s solo home run cut the score to 5-2, but Campbell’s David Olson shut the door with a three-inning save, not allowing a hit in the final three innings.
