GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Authorities say a Gaffney couple found dead outside their home were likely killed more than a week ago.
Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said it appears the husband shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself.
The coroner identified the victims as 74-year-old James Truman Smith and his 69-year-old wife, Doris Marlene Smith. Autopsies will be conducted.
Fowler says a man coming to Smith’s house to get some rocks Friday afternoon found the bodies.
Deputies say the home was well off the road and it would have been hard for anyone to see the couple’s bodies without coming on their property.
