Tyler Weekley threw a two-hitter in a battle of pitching aces as James Island topped Gilbert 4-1 tonight to win the Class AAA District 6 baseball championship.

Weekley, who will pitch for Charleston Southern next spring, bested Gilbert ace Drew Moyer, a righty who signed with Clemson.

The Trojans won the title the hard way. Gilbert won the first game of the day, 2-1, to force the nightcap of the double-elimination tournament.

The Trojans prevailed, pushing their record to 17-10. The Trojans will host Brookland-Cayce Monday night in the first game of the Lower State Championship Series.
