Summerville Elementary School fifth grade teacher Kathy Green was recently crowned a top five teacher in the nation by a national talk show, but now she wants to be No. 1.
And to do so, she needs votes.
Green was recently named a finalist in the “Live with Kelly and Michael” search for the nation’s Top Teacher.
When she was showcased on the show Tuesday, she received a standing ovation from the audience. Hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan gave her a trophy, 30 Intel Inspired Toshiba Ultrabook Convertibles for her classroom, and a $5,000 shopping spree at Talbots.
Voting for the overall winner opens today at livekellyandmichael.com and runs through 3 p.m. Monday. Ballots can be cast daily.
The winner, who will be announced live on Tuesday’s show, will take home a 2014 Ford Escape and the winner’s school will receive $25,000.
The other finalists are: Erin Palonen of Griswold, Conn.; Ann Marie Rooney of New Rochelle, N.Y.; Suzette Steward of Katy, Texas; and Rick Zano of Virginia Beach, Va.
The show airs locally at 9 a.m. on WCIV.
