Clemson University structural engineering graduate student Parker Shields received the Glenn Global Leadership Graduate Student Award at the university’s civil engineering honors and awards ceremony in March.

The award funds Shields’ two-month summer trip to Besancon, France, for research at the French National Institute for Scientific Research.

Last summer, he worked as an engineer in training at Applied Building Sciences in North Charleston before returning to Clemson for graduate school.

Shields is the son of Mark and Sally Shields of Mount Pleasant. He graduated from Wando High School in 2007 and earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Clemson in 2011.
