Charleston County Council Finance Committee votes unanimously against Beach Co.’s Kiawah River Plantation financing plan

Charleston County Council’s Finance Committee voted unanimously against the Beach Co.’s controversial financing plan for Kiawah River Plantation.

The full council will vote on the matter Tuesday. But council Chairman Teddie Pryor said he doesn’t expect any change.

County attorney Joe Dawson said that means the plan is dead, at least in its present form. But it could be reworked and brought back to council in the future.

Beach Co. officials could not be reached for comment after the vote.

Charleston County Council’s Finance Committee heard a presentation from a representative of opponents to a controversial financing plan for the Beach Co.’s Kiawah River Plantation development before the vote.
