Sheriff’s deputies arrest man in connection with shooting at Kangaroo gas station on Johns Island

Fabian Hernandez, 30 of Walpole Way, is charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime in connection with a shooting May 1 on Johns Island.

Charleston County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man in connection with a shooting Wednesday at a Kangaroo gas station on Johns Island.

Fabian Hernandez, 30 of Walpole Way, is charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, jail records show.

Deputies were dispatched about 7 p.m. to Kangaroo gas station, 503 Main Road at the River Road intersection, where a man was reportedly shot.

A 19-year-old man told deputies that he was inside of the store when he heard a gunshot. The man went outside and saw a man point a revolver at another man and pull the trigger, deputies said.

The wounded man ran to a silver of grey vehicle and quickly drove from the area, an incident report states.

Investigators on Wednesday determined that he had been dropped off at St. Francis Hospital with minor injuries.

The gunman fled behind the wheel of a green sport utility vehicle, witnesses reported. That vehicle was later located on Walpole Way, deputies said.

A 42-year-old woman told deputies that she was driving down River Road when she saw money blowing in the wind. The woman picked up $260 and handed the bills to deputies thinking the gas station had been robbed, according to the report.

Hernandez is being held at the Charleston County jail.
