West Ashley was ground zero this morning’s campaigning for the 1st Congressional District, as both Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch and Republican Mark Sanford separately stopped by several small businesses.
Colbert Busch mingled with shoppers and business owners at South Windermere Shopping Center and briefly touched on the three parts to her platform: creating jobs, getting the nation’s fiscal house in order, and being a congresswoman voters can trust.
Sanford visited shops at St. Andrew’s Center and also posed for pictures with supporters. He said voters need to realize there is a big philosophical difference between how he and his opponent would approach problems in Washington.
As the state’s political attention shifts to Columbia Friday — as Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Sen Ted Cruz, R-Texas arrive to speak at their respective party’s big fundraising dinner — the 1st District candidates will stay home.
Colbert Busch has no other public events set for today. Sanford will be back downtown this evening for a private fundraiser with Gov. Nikki Haley.
The election is May 7.
