Thirty of Charleston County School District’s employees make more than $100,000 per year and account for 3.8 percent of the total amount the district spends on salaries annually.
The highest paid employee in the district is School Superintendent Nancy McGinley, who makes $218,392 annually. She received in December a contract extension in contract until December 2016.
School district employees’ salaries were requested as part of the newspaper’s Salary Spotlight, an online database of salary information for state and local employees.
Ranking No. 2 on the list at $167,280 was Bill Lewis, the district’s chief operating officer who oversees its building program. His contract expires in June 2015.
Lewis was followed by district attorney John Emerson at $147,900 and chief of finance, operations and human resources Mike Bobby at $143,434. The school board agreed in February to extend both Emerson and Bobby’s contracts until June 2016.
About 5,300 employees work for Charleston County schools.
