Bryce Alderson joins Charleston Battery roster from Vancouver Whitecaps

Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that midfielder Bryce Alderson will join the Charleston Battery on a season-long loan.

“Bryce is one of the top young talents in Canadian soccer and he possesses a great deal of potential,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie. “At his stage of development it is important to get as much competitive action as possible and we feel that he can benefit from spending time with Charleston Battery.”

Alderson, 19, joins Whitecaps FC teammates Ben Fisk and Emmanuel Adjetey on loan to Charleston this season.

“I hear great things about Charleston and the club and I’m looking forward to this new opportunity as I continue my development,” Alderson said.

The midfielder joined the Whitecaps FC Residency program in September 2010 and in November 2011 joined the club’s MLS roster.

Last year, the 5-10, 170-pound native of Kitchener, Ontario, made six appearances and scored one goal in MLS Reserve League action. The midfielder also made five appearances for Whitecaps FC U-23 in the USL Premier Development League (PDL).

In addition, Alderson scored six goals in 21 appearances for Whitecaps FC U-18 Residency in the United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA). Alderson helped lead the Whitecaps reach the championship match.
