A Charleston police officer and a second driver were hospitalized following a wreck downtown this morning.
Shortly before 4 a.m., a 2006 Chevrolet that was headed north on Line Street disregarded a traffic signal and struck a police cruiser that was headed east on Meeting Street, S.C. Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said. The Chevrolet then ran off the road and struck a signal box, she said.
Wyant identified the officer as 35-year-old Carlos Torres and 20-year-old Jasmine Wilson, both of Charleston. Each driver was wearing a seat belt when the wreck occurred, she said.
Torres and Wilson were transported to Medical University Hospital following the wreck, Wyant said. Both have since been released, she said.
No charges have been filed in the collision, Wyant said.
