Firefighters this morning extinguished flames at Caliente Bar and Grill in North Charleston.
Crews were dispatched to the bar, at 1908 Remount Road, about 2:30 a.m., North Charleston Fire Department spokeswoman Bianca Sancic said. First responders saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the building, she said.
Crews contained the flames to the exterior of the building, which received minimal damage, Sancic said.
Three kittens were also rescued from an abandoned pool table behind the building. The animals were turned over to the Charleston Animal Society, Sancic said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, she said.
