Citadel wins game one, but Furman snaps Bulldogs’ win streak at 10 in nightcap
GREENVILLE -- Bo Thompson slammed two home runs among a career-best five hits to lead a 19-hit attack, and The Citadel won its 10th straight baseball game with a 13-7 victory in a rain-delayed game at Furman on Saturday.
But Furman came back to win game two of the doubleheader, 14-10, in a game that ended after 12:30 a.m. today.
The Bulldogs are 27-18 overall and 14-7 in the Southern Conference. Furman is 23-19 and 10-14. The Citadel won two of three to claim the series.
In Saturday’s first game, Thompson hit a solo homer in the fourth inning and a two-run shot in the eighth, driving in five runs and giving him 12 homers for the season. Bailey Rush drove in a career-high three runs with a two-run double in the sixth and an RBI triple in the ninth.
Johnathan Stokes had three hits, while Joe Jackson and Drew DeKerlegand had two each.
Reliever Zach Sherrill (3-1) retired one batter in the fifth, enough to earn him the victory in his NCAA-leading 34th appearance of the season.
