MOUNT PLEASANT — The College of Charleston softball team fell, 3-1, in the series finale against Western Carolina at Patriots Point on Sunday afternoon, ending their 13-game winning streak.
The Cougars (32-17, 13-7 SoCon) outhit the Catamounts, 10-7, but failed to capitalize on their baserunners, leaving 14 runners stranded.
Mackenzie Maples paced the Charleston bats in going 3 for 4, which sent her batting average over the .300 mark on the season. Chandler Frisbie and Ashton Jarrett each had two hits.
The Cougars will wrap up the regular season this weekend at UNC Greensboro.
The College of Charleston coed sailing team placed eighth in the Western fleet at the College Sailing National Semifinals over the weekend at the Hampton (Va.) Yacht Club.
The Cougars scored 176 points over the course of the two-day regatta and were one of nine teams to qualify for the Gill/ICSA Coed National Championship to be held May 28-30.
The Citadel women’s sprint medley relay posted a school record time of 4:02.17 in Saturday’s 119th Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
The quartet of Chalita Johnson, Tanisha Bethel, Danielle Williams and Micah Wessinger shattered their own record in the event set earlier this season at the Raleigh Relays by over two seconds and placed 16th out of 33 teams.
