The lone man aboard the berthed tall Ship Spirit of South Carolina is a volunteer caretaker. And Troy LeBoeuf dotes on the ship he frankly admits he loves.
He maintains her almost singlehandedly, doing the endless chores without pay, as the Charleston Maritime Foundation looks to sell it.
He doesn’t have to do that much and he knows. He wouldn’t have it any other way. His job, he said, is to keep her.
