North Charleston has been named a 2013 winner of a Sunny Award from Sunshine Review, a national nonprofit that advocates government transparency.
“Ease of access and transparency are important to ensure we are a government performing the will of its people,” said Mayor Keith Summey. “We proudly provide public documents and financial information on our website, as well as broadcasting our City Council meetings live on YouTube.”
S.C. Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom, who has led a campaign to get local and county governments to disclose their monthly spending online, says the Sunny Award winners in South Carolina help set an example for the rest of the state. North Charleston was the only Charleston-area winner this year.
