April 27: Where the Wild Things Run 5K. Caw Caw Interpretive Center, 8:30 a.m. Explore your wild side on a scenic run through the trails of this 654-acre site rich in natural and historical resources. Online registration ends April 26. Ages 10-15 may register, but must be accompanied by an adult chaperon. Fee: $34/$28 CCR Discount.

April 27: Shaggin’ on the Cooper. 7-11 p.m. Spend an evening danc- ing on the scenic Mount Pleasant Pier to live music performed by Groove Train. Beverages available for purchase on site. May 4: Charleston County Waterparks open. Splash Island in Mount Pleasant, Splash Zone on James Island, and Whirlin’ Waters in North Charleston open for weekends only in May. Visit www.splashparks.com.

April 26: Bird Walks at Beachwalker Park. 8:30-11 a.m. The southwestern end of Kiawah Island is an excellent place to spot seabirds and shorebirds. Group will hike nearly two miles of pristine beach looking for a variety of birds, including raptors and songbirds. The program is free; preregistration required. A registered chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Age: 12 & up.

April 27: Family Outdoor Adventure Sampler: Archery at Palmetto Islands County Park. 9-11 a.m. Learn the basics and have a friendly accuracy competition. A registered and paid chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Age: 10 & up. Fee: $12/$10 CCR Discount. Preregistration required.

April 27: Local Sea Kayak Trips: Coburg Creek Kayak Exploration. 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. This fun tour that passes by an old dairy while wind-ing through a salt marsh creek. End up on the Stono River, then paddle Wappoo Cut back to the boat landing. Age: 16 & up. Fee: $48/$40 CCR Discount. Preregistration is required.

April 27: Carolina Tea at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. 1-4 p.m. Explore the history behind tea cultivation in South Carolina over a cup of local tea and light snacks. Before the tea party, group will visit the 100-plus-year-old Tea Farm site and harvest tea from naturalized plants. Take tea leaves you collect home to make your own green and black tea. A registered and paid chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Age: 9 & up. Fee: $15/$12 CCR Discount. Preregistration required.

April 27: Early Morning Bird Walks at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. 8:30-11:30 a.m. This walk through many distinct habitats will allow group to view and discuss a variety of birds, butterflies and other organisms. Preregistration is encouraged, but walk-in registrations at Caw Caw are welcome. A chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. The fee: $5/Free for Gold Pass Holders.

April 28: Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) Instructional Classes: Intro to SUP-Level 1 at James Island County Park. 1-3 p.m. This fun and relaxed class will get you started with instruction on safety and the proper paddling technique that will allow you to progress comfortably at your own pace. Age: 16 & up. Fee: $24/$20 CCR Discount. Preregistration required.

April 30: How to Belay at James Island County Park. 5:30-7 p.m. Learn to belay in this abbreviated version of the popular Introduction to Climbing class. Age: 14 & up. Fee: $18/$15 CCR Discount. Preregistration required.

April 30: After-School Adventures: Stand-Up Paddleboarding at Palmetto Islands County Park. 4:30-6 p.m. After school ends for the day, come to the park and have some fun on Stand-Up Paddleboards. Learn basic paddling skills and then have some fun on the water. Age: 8-12. Fee: $6/$5 CCR Discount. Preregistration required.

April 30-May 5: Rock Climbing Trips: Gym to Crag Weekend. 5:30-6:30 p.m. (Tuesday), departs noon (Saturday) and returns 8 p.m. (Sunday). Join group for two days of top rope climbing at Crowders Mountain, N.C. The high-friction routes offer an aesthetic setting for learning outdoor movement skills and top rope anchoring techniques. At the conclusion of the weekend, climbers will have the skills necessary to climb independently outdoors, as well as the background to take the next step into more technical climbing. Belay skills are a prerequisite. Age: 16 & up. Fee: $154/$140 CCR Discount. Preregistration required.
