BURTON, S.C. -- Beaufort County sheriff’s deputies say 15 dogs have been taken from the home of a Burton woman who is too sick to take care of them.
The Beaufort Gazette reported that the dogs were taken from the home Tuesday.
Sgt. Robin McIntosh says the 58-year-old woman allowed deputies to enter the home.
McIntosh says the dogs were taken to the Beaufort County Animal Shelter, which turned them over to the Hilton Head Humane Association to be checked by a veterinarian.
McIntosh says 12 Chihuahuas, two poodles, and a Labrador mix were recovered. None of the dogs appeared to be sick. All of them eventually should be eligible for adoption.
McIntosh says the woman was taken to a hospital for treatment.
No charges have been filed.
