Parents charged in death of 3-year-old girl killed in Spruill Avenue wreck
The parents of a 3-year-old girl killed last month in a North Charleston collision have surrendered to police, authorities said.
Amanda Hicks, 35, and Tyrone Hicks, 33, were taken into custody a short time ago, a police source said.
Tyrone Hicks and Amanda Hicks are both charged with unlawful conduct toward a child, authorities said. Tyrone Hicks will face an addition reckless homicide charge.
The charges were made in connection with the death of 3-year-old Tylia Hicks. The child died March 25 at Medical University Hospital, hours after she was thrown from the back seat of a pickup truck.
The truck, which was driven by Tyrone Hicks, had side-swiped another vehicle, then hit a utility pole and flipped shortly after 4 p.m. near the intersection of Spruill and Clement avenues, police said.
Tyrone Hicks and front-seat passenger Amanda Hicks were injured in the wreck and taken to MUSC for treatment.
