Bo Thompson’s sacrifice fly scored Hughston Armstrong with the winning run in the ninth inning, and The Citadel escaped with an 8-7 victory over Appalachian State today in college baseball today at Riley Park.
With a seventh straight win and three-game sweep of App State, the Bulldogs improved to 24-17 overall and 12-6 in the Southern Conference. App State fell to 21-15 overall and 10-10 in the SoCon.
Joe Jackson hit his seventh home run, a two-ruin shot, in the three-run second inning, and Armstrong rang up a career-best five hits, scoring three times and driving in a run.
Reliever Skylar Hunter (2-3) earned the win.
The Bulldogs host Charleston Southern at 3 p.m. Tuesday before traveling to Furman for a three-game series next weekend.
