The 2013 Clash of the Carolinas, which features the top senior soccer players from South Carolina vs. their counterparts from North Carolina, will be held July 6 at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island.
Lowcountry players named to the S.C. boys team are Wyatt Ball, Academic Magnet; Erik Clark and Andrew Davis, Wando; and Chris MacMurray, Hilton Head.
Stephen Jackson of West Ashley is co-coach of the South Carolina team.
Lowcountry players selected to play for the South Carolina girls are Emily Crick and Faith Lifer, Hilton Head; Melissa McCool and Rachel Torlay, Wando; and Baker Walls, Academic Magnet.
Peter Husinger of Stratford is co-coach of the South Carolina girls’ team.
For the second time this season, Wando midfielder Erik Clark has been named a National Soccer Coaches Association high school player of the week.
Clark is the first player to repeat as an NSCAA High School Player of the Week. He first won the award on April 3.
The senior midfielder was named MVP of the Palmetto Cup after scoring seven goals and registering three assists in the tournament.
He will play at the College of Charleston this fall.
Steve Guerry resigned as the boys basketball coach at Stall.
He posted a 21-27 record in two years, including 14-11 this past season when the Warriors moved up to Class AAA. The Warriors gained their first playoff win in 19 years when they defeated Airport in the first round.
Stall was 1-18 in each of the two seasons before Guerry’s arrival.
Porter-Gaud student-athletes Tahirih Nesmith and Michael Byrd took part in signing ceremonies at the school earlier this week.
Nesmith will play soccer at Penn and Byrd will play basketball for Erskine.
A third student-athlete, tennis player Thomas Spratt, will also play at Penn.
