Yankees centerfielder Brett Gardner was 2 for 4 and drove in two runs in New York’s 4-3 win over Arizona on Wednesday night.
Gardner (Holly Hill, College of Charleston) singled in two runs in the seventh inning to tie the game, won eventually by Travis Hafner’s home run in the eighth. Gardner is now batting .259 with eight runs batted-in.
Elsewhere among Lowcountry players in pro baseball Wednesday night:
• Justin Smoak (Stratford HS, USC) was 1 for 5 with a walk and a strikeout in Seattle’s 2-1 loss to Detroit. The first baseman is batting .204.
• Catcher Matt Wieters (Stratford HS) was 1 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout in Baltimore’s 6-2 loss to Tampa Bay. He is batting .217.
In the minors:
• John Murrian (Stratford HS) went 0 for 1 with two walks for the Class A Lakeland Tigers. The catcher is batting .130 in eight games so far this season.
