Each year, students in the St. Andrews Middle School gifted and talented program compete in the Optimist Club International Essay Scholarship Competition.
This year, three of those students were honored by sweeping the top three positions in the West Ashley Club-sponsored event.
Eighth-grader Skylar Reese received the first-place award, seventh-grader Kaitlyn Cathey placed second and eighth-grader Davon Campbell placed third.
Skylar’s essay will go on to compete at the state level for a $2,500 scholarship award.
