A College of Charleston dormitory was evacuated this afternoon until a student came by and claimed an unattended backpack.
Students were asked to leave Maybank Hall at Calhoun at St. Philip’s streets about 3:15 p.m. after a student reported a backpack with nobody near it, college spokesman Mike Robertson said. Everybody was let back in a few minutes later after a student who had gone to lunch got back and claimed the backpack, he said.
Authorities suspect the two bombs that disrupted the Boston Marathon Monday were left in backpacks, according to news reports.
