State Sen. Robert Ford accused of ethics violations

COLUMBIA — The Senate Ethics Committee has found probable cause to substantiate ethics allegations against longtime Charleston Democratic Sen. Robert Ford.

The committee, which is composed of 10 of Ford’s fellow senators and investigates members of the upper chamber, said in a release late this afternoon that a formal hearing will be held.

Among other allegations, Ford is accused of using his campaign account for personal use between July 10, 2009, and April 10, 2013.

A Senate Democratic Caucus spokesman said Ford has no comment at this time.
