Five men have been arrested after a fatal shooting in Walterboro Saturday night.
The death of 24-year-old Stephon Young of Walterboro does not appear to be related to gangs or to other recent shootings in the county, Elizabeth Boineau, spokeswoman for Walterboro Public Safety, said today.
Walterboro police arrived at Crosby and Francis streets about 6:45 p.m. Saturday to find Young lying on the ground unresponsive. Police said they recovered three handguns at the scene.
Here’s what investigators learned, according to Boineau.
Young and Errol Jackson, 18, of Walterboro met four other men earlier and a fight broke out. Young was shot and the other five left the area.
Jackson returned to the scene later and was questioned. Officers then located the other four for questioning.
Jackson was charged with obstruction of justice.
Desmond D. Kirkland, 20, Lorenzo L. Helton, 21, and Marquay C. Brown, 21, all of Yemassee, and Joey D. Coleman, 22, of Hendersonville were all charged with murder.
Police declined to release any more details.
