Lutheran churches plan a morning of community projects
On Saturday, members and friends of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church on the Isle of Palms and All Saints Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant will participate in Operation Inasmuch, a morning of outreach to serve the “least of these” in the community.
Operation Inasmuch is a national nonprofit that supports and encourages churches to move congregants out of their sanctuary seats and into the streets to serve those in need.
The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s. Following a brief service and continental breakfast, volunteers will head out to various projects.
Projects include family- friendly activities such as building and painting birdhouses for hospice patients and making and delivering cards to and cookies for local firefighters and the homebound. Other volunteers will gather at the Piggly Wiggly on the Isle of Palms connector for a food drive to benefit East Cooper Meals on Wheels.
Both churches have been collecting books for the Medical University of South Carolina. The books will be sorted and packaged for delivery. Another group will be making a quilt that will go to someone in need.
A group of handy men and women will complete home and yard maintenance in the community. Most projects will conclude around noon.
Anyone interested in taking part may contact St. Mark’s at 886-8557 or All Saints Lutheran at 884-5470 before Friday for more information.
