AUGUSTA - Dustin Johnson entered the 77th Masters with as much attention on his girlfriend as his golf game. But the 28-year-old South Carolinian fired a 5-under 67 at Augusta National on Thursday to get within one shot of a lead shared by Marc Leishman and Sergio Garcia.
Johnson, a Columbia native who played at Coastal Carolina and lives in Myrtle Beach, made an eagle on the famed par 5 No. 13 hole.
Johnson has had three near misses in majors, including a second-place finish at the 2010 PGA Championship.
He is dating model/singer Paulina Gretzky, daughter of hockey legend Wayne “The Great One” Gretzky. Johnson and Paulina Gretzky walked from the 18th green to the clubhouse Thursday holding hands.
