A woman was killed Tuesday night in a shooting on West Side Lane in Walterboro, according to the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office.
Rebecca Dewitt, 34 of West Side Lane in Walterboro, was pronounced dead at Colleton Medical Center, Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey said.
Dewitt was an innocent bystander who happened to be leaving the store with her children at the time of the shooting, Chief Deputy Ted Stanfield said.
An autopsy is scheduled for today and an official cause of death will be released afterward, Harvey said.
Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting that happened at a trailer park near the Walterboro Walmart Tuesday night.
Colleton County’s 911 dispatch center started receiving calls shortly before 8:30 p.m. concerning shots fired from at least two vehicles in a part of town known as the West Side, Stanfield said.
Two people from two separate vehicles were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, Stanfield said.
