A school bus was involved in a wreck on College Park Road this afternoon, sending several students to a hospital for observation.
The wreck was reported about 2:25 p.m. at College Park Road and I-26.
The bus was carrying 11 special-needs students from Pinehurst and Midland Park elementary schools, district spokesman Jason Sakron said. He said none of the students was seriously hurt but several were taken to a hospital to be checked out.
The bus driver was trying to make a left turn onto College Park Road when a 2005 Nissan SUV ran the red light and hit the bus, Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Bridget Wyant said. The impact of the collision pushed the bus into two other vehicles that were stopped at the opposing red light.
Four students and the bus driver were taken to Trident Hospital, Wyant said. A passenger in a 2013 Dodge that was also involved in the wreck was also taken to Trident Hospital.
The driver of the SUV, Darlene Pringle, 51, of Ridgeville, was charged with disregarding a traffic signal, Wyant said.
