Investigators have given no indication why a man fatally shot himself during a traffic stop near Goose Creek Monday.
A Highway Patrol officer pulled over a red Toyota pickup about 11:45 a.m. on Red Bank Road for a seat belt violation, Sgt. Bob Beres said today. The driver pulled into the parking lot of a former Blockbuster video store. The trooper noticed the driver was slumped over when he approached the truck and called EMS.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s office is expected to identify the man Wednesday.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s office is handling the investigation. The man was believed to have an active arrest warrant out of Greenville, but it was not believed to be a serious charge, sheriff’s office spokesman Dan Moon said.
The incident report is expected to be available Wednesday.
