SLED charges Summerville man accused of forging divorce papers
State Law Enforcement Division agents charged a Summerville man accused of forging court documents in order to convince his girlfriend that he was divorced.
According to an arrest affidavit, Edward Brown, 45, of Branch Creek Trail, swapped out his first wife’s name with his second on a divorce decree to make it look like he was no longer married.
Brown also altered the case number and several dates on the divorce papers, the affidavit states. He mailed the forged documents to his girlfriend saying that they were real, SLED agents said.
Brown is charged with forgery with no dollar amount involved.
If convicted on the misdemeanor charge, Brown could face up to three years in prison, a fine or both, according to SLED.
