NEW YORK — Former “American Idol” contestant Crystal Bowersox will portray Patsy Cline this summer on Broadway. Performances of “Always... Patsy Cline” begin in July.
The show is based on a true story about Cline’s friendship with a Texas fan who befriended the star in 1961 and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death in 1963 in a plane crash at 30.
The musical features 27 Cline hits.
Oscar nominee Annette O’Toole will play the fan.
Bowersox, who lost season nine of “American Idol” in 2010, is promoting her new CD “All That For This.”
